The New York 2 New Orleans Coalition

Work in NYC

While the work that we can all do in New Orleans is great, the job does not end there. The rebuilding process in New Orleans is just a part of a massive movement for social, racial, and economic equality and it is essential that we continue to fight for the rights of all of our brothers and sisters all across the country, from New Orleans all the way to our own neighborhoods.

Current Projects and Events in NYC

We recognize that Katrina simply uncovered a number of underlying systematic issues that existed long before the storm ever hit, as well as in every city and town across the United States. Therefore we are trying to organize and mobilize all victims of racism, classism, poverty, gentrification, and any other forms of systematic oppression that are living right here in New York City.

Our website is currently under construction and we will have more information on our current projects shortly.

Monthly Meetings

One major way that we can all stay involved is by coming together to discuss further ways to improve the situation in New Orleans. Our partners, the New York Solidarity Coalition with Katrina and Rita Survivors, hold monthly meetings where people from all across NYC gather to discuss and plan how we can continue to help get the people of New Orleans back into their homes. We meet the fourth Monday of every month at 6:30 at the Middle Collegiate Church at 50 East 7th Street (off  2nd Avenue in Manhattan) for our Housing as a Human Right Campaign, and the second Saturday of every month at the Thurgood Marshall Academy School at 200 West 135th Street (Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. in Manhattan).

Activists of all ages and displaced survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita come together at these meetings to discuss ways of continuing the movEment and to plan how to further help the re-building process in New Orleans. We encourage you to come to these meetings to learn, organize, and to stay involved.
