Summer Blog Revived

NY2NO is now in New Orleans, as we begin an 8 week long summer, bringing down about 250 volunteers.
As we did last summer, we will be regularly blogging to record and update everyone as the summer goes along. Check out the blog HERE

Summer Movie Night: Do the Right Thing

NY2NO wants you to "do the right thing," come out on Tuesday June 30th at 8pm to watch an outdoor screening of one of Spike Lee's greatest films.

It will be held at Open Road Park on 12th Street between 1st Avenue and Avenue A. Take the L train to 1st Avenue and walk down to 12th street.

There will be drinks, snacks, and T-shirts for sale

We reccomend to bring a fold up chair!

Music, Art, and Food at the Clemente

Come join us as we continue to raise funds together for our super packed summer of organizing with a wonderful evening of mellow music, delicious food, and art for sale.

Summer Organizers

This summer we are looking for young people who have already been down to New Orleans with us to act as organizers on our eight summer trips.

If you are interested in taking a leadership role in New Orleans with NY2NO this summer, apply to act as an organizer. For more information, go to the Upcoming Trips page.

Search for New Inner Reach Members

ATTENTION NY2NO COLLECTIVE!!

As the year draws to a close and many of the seniors are departing, NY2NO is looking for new young people to take up their places in the Inner Reach committee. If you are interested in applying to be an Inner Reach member, please send an email to newyork2neworleans@gmail.com to request an application and more information about the process and position.

You must request an application by Monday, April 20th. Please do it as soon as possible. That does not mean you need to have an application filled out by then, it's just an email.

Presentations and Poetry for the 20th Annual Friendshipment Caravan

IFCO/Pastors for Peace and NY2NO present an event on: Monday, March 23, 2009 Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm Location: Blue Stockings Radical Bookstore Street: 172 Allen St New York, NY

Directions: Bluestockings is located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan at 172 Allen Street between Stanton and Rivington - which means that we are 1 block south of Houston and 1st Avenue.

By train: We are 1 block south of the F train’s 2nd Avenue stop and just 5 blocks from the JMZ-line’s Essex / Delancey Street stop.

IFCO/Pastors for Peace and New York 2 New Orleans Coalition reach out to young people across the city to be caravanistas on the 20th Annual Friendshipment Caravan to Cuba this summer.

Presentations will include:

1. Hurricanes - Presentation/Slideshow on Work Brigade and the affects of Hurricanes Hanna and Gustav on Cubans

2. Embargo/US Imperialism in Cuba -The history of the Embargo/Blockade, the current legislation, what people can do...ect

3. Caravan and Collecting aid- Experiences with being young people on the Caravan. Also, breaking down why we go, why we refuse a license...ect. An explanation on the process of collecting aid and how you can get involved.

4. Cuban 5 - we will be distributing literature with updates about the Cuban 5 case

Young Spoken Word Poets We Have So Far: Lauren Anderson, Joao Amos, Marne Bruckner and Alia Pierre ...More to come! If you are interested in performing let us know!

Jazz Fundraiser

This event will include live music by some great bands, food, drink, and a silent art auction

 Sixth Street Community Center  -- Sixth street between avenues b and c in New York City's Lower East Side (Take the L to first avenue and 14th street, or the F to 2nd avenue and walk).

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for youth.
